Press Release

Firewall as a Service is an intelligent way to deploy next-generation firewalls in the cloud, delivered as a part of Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) within the Apcela Arcus platform

Reston, VA, November 30, 2020.Apcela, a leading innovator in software-defined, cloud-optimized network services, announced Firewall as a Service (FWaaS) support in their Multi-Cloud and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework. These offerings are a part of the Arcus Secure platform, which enables enterprises to distribute security to the edge.

FWaaS is a way to deploy firewalls in the cloud that can deliver advanced next-generation firewall (NGFW) capabilities, allowing customers to eliminate the appliance altogether while also unifying application-aware security policy across all sites. NGFW capabilities include URL filtering, advanced threat preventions, intrusion prevention, domain name security, and more. With a unique branch architecture offering secure site-to-site connectivity, the result is simplified management and improved scalability.

According to Adam Hils, Sr. Director Analyst at Gartner, “FWaaS can provide simpler, more flexible architecture by leveraging centralized policy management, multiple enterprise firewall features and traffic tunneling to partially or fully move security inspections to a cloud infrastructure… It also offers greater visibility through centralized policy, increased flexibility and reduced capital cost by using a fully or partially hosted security workload.”(1)

At the center of Apcela’s solution is the Arcus Platform, a software-defined approach to the multi-cloud environment. FWaaS lives in Arcus Secure – a security layer in the cloud that operates as a plug and play platform for SASE.

“Everyone is moving to the cloud, and with the increase in remote work, enterprises need to make sure their employees are secure. With Apcela Arcus, we can lift and shift their security stack to the cloud, and extend the reach of their firewalls,” says Kunal Thakkar, Head of Solutions Engineering at Apcela. “Firewall as a Service is a key part of SASE that aims to secure the network in the cloud.”
